When stores rearrange shelving or kitchens change their layout, refrigerators are often moved at the same time. Moving the unit a few meters may seem simple, but the new location may be close to a heat source, obstruct heat dissipation, or make door opening and restocking inconvenient. Check the site conditions before moving, then contact the supplier to confirm the arrangements and avoid having to move the unit again after it has been positioned.

Measure the new location before moving the unit

Measure the available space and take photos of the area around and above the unit to confirm that it will not obstruct walkways or normal operation. When placing the unit against a wall, inside a counter, or alongside other units, request the installation requirements for that model from the supplier. Do not assume ventilation is adequate merely because there appears to be some clearance, and do not use clearances stated in the manual for a different model.

Check whether there are stoves, ovens, direct sunlight, or other obvious heat sources near the new location. Requirements concerning clearance from heat sources, heat dissipation, and placement can first be checked in the product manual, after which the actual site conditions should be confirmed with the supplier. Floor conditions, drainage, and door-opening clearance should also be assessed, especially in kitchen wet areas and locations that are washed down at night.

Have the power supply confirmed by the responsible personnel

Take photos of the nameplate and power connection, and provide the required power supply conditions to the responsible personnel for verification. The fact that the existing outlet works does not mean that a cable can simply be connected at the new location. Whether the circuit is suitable, whether the outlet position is appropriate, and requirements such as grounding should be handled by qualified personnel in accordance with the product documentation; handling personnel should not make temporary connections.

If temperature recorders, networked monitoring systems, or alarm devices need to be moved with the unit, arrangements should be made in advance. Have the service provider confirm on site whether the network, power, and signal conditions at the new location meet the requirements. For units already included in the store’s asset records, preserve the correspondence between the unit identification number and its records before and after the move, so that historical records are not mistakenly transferred to a different unit.

Include product transfer and downtime in the plan

The relocation plan should cover how to handle the products inside the unit, where to store them temporarily, who will transfer them, and when the unit will be returned to service. Follow the product labels, supply requirements, and company operating procedures for the required storage conditions. Do not omit arrangements for transferring the products merely because the shutdown is expected to be brief.

Handling methods, permitted orientations, and procedures for restoring operation after relocation may vary by model. If disconnection, professional handling, or reinstallation is required, assign the work to the supplier and the appropriate personnel. After the unit is disconnected, protect the power cable, accessories, and other connections properly to prevent dragging, crushing, or loss during the move.

Complete an on-site handover again after relocation

Check whether the appearance, doors, accessories, and placement match the arrangement, then complete the subsequent operations as instructed. During operation and observation, record the new location, date, environmental conditions, and any issues identified. If the store already has a defined monitoring or acceptance procedure, the relevant personnel should confirm whether it remains applicable after relocation. Handover should not be considered complete merely because the equipment has powered on again.

If abnormal noise, alarms, or changes in operation occur after relocation, explain to after-sales service what changed before and after the move and provide on-site photos. Repeatedly changing settings while also continually moving the equipment makes the issue more difficult to reproduce. Preserve the original symptoms to make it easier for after-sales service to identify the cause under its guidance.

Add a “Location Change Record” to the equipment file, specifying the original location, new location, relocation date, personnel involved, and whether operation was restored. When the layout of the same model is adjusted again in the future, use this record to prepare the required documentation. For a different model, recheck the requirements rather than treating a single experience as a universal operating procedure.
